Join Our Team – 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (Upper School)

Cardiff Steiner School is seeking a compassionate and committed 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to work with a 15-year-old student with specific learning differences. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a nurturing, creative educational environment.

About the Role:

We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in supporting young people with learning differences and the confidence, understanding, and patience to help them thrive. You’ll provide individualised support across a broad range of subjects, supporting reading, writing, and arithmetic within these. Sensitivity and awareness are key - you’ll need to know when to step in, and when to encourage independent learning. We offer a unique and supportive working environment rooted in the Steiner Waldorf approach to education.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A recognised Learning Support or Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent), OR proven experience supporting students with their learning
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust and rapport with students
  • A calm, flexible approach and a commitment to inclusive, student-centred education

Hours: 13.17 hours per week, term-time only over an approx. 36-week school year

Current hours are: Tuesday 11.30am-3.20pm, Wednesday 9.00am-3.20pm, Thursday 9.00am-1.00pm (subject to timetable)

Salary: £12.21 per hour plus statutory holiday pay

We are unable to consider applications from candidates who have applied for this role previously.

About Us

Steiner education is a holistic approach to learning that focuses on nurturing the whole child - head, heart, and hands- by integrating academic, artistic, and practical learning in a developmentally appropriate way.

Steiner Upper School education supports the intellectual, emotional, and ethical development of adolescents through a broad, interdisciplinary curriculum. It encourages critical thinking, creativity, and social responsibility, with strong emphasis on the arts, sciences, and practical skills. Teachers aim to meet students at each stage of their development, fostering independence, self-awareness, and a lifelong love of learning.

The School offers a full Kindergarten to Class 12 Steiner Waldorf education from age 3 to 18/19. In Upper School we offer the Certificate of Steiner Education (NZCSE) rather than GCSEs and A Levels.

The NZCSE is an international secondary school qualification fully based on the Steiner curriculum. It’s a valid, alternative qualification, equivalent to A Levels and the International Baccalaureate, recognised by UCAS and accepted by UK and international universities.

We are a small school by design, with a collaborative staff team, supportive families and a strong community spirit. Our teaching staff are at the heart of our success and we have developed a strong culture of collaboration where staff are valued and your input, enthusiasm and talents will be welcomed and appreciated.

We are a Waldorf UK full member School, and are fully independent.
